Fatwa number ( 9573 ):
Q: Whatis the ruling on the charity that I slaughter and say in my heart or to those present, "This is charity for Allah the Exalted on the occasion of my son's success"?or on the occasion of his safety from a car accident, or on the occasion of any joy? May Allah reward you, O Shaykh: Is it permissible for me to eat from this charity or not? Knowing that I do not swear by Allah or make a vow that I will do such and such. But when this joy occurs, I say, "This is charity for Allah the Exalted." Guide us, may Allah reward you, regarding what I mentioned, and what is the sound path that we should follow?
A: The principle in deeds is that they are based on intention, and intention is a condition for being rewarded for the deed. A Muslim should intend to draw near to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in every expenditure. If a permissible occasion occurs, such as the arrival of a guest
or encouraging a son, and the like, and one intends thereby to draw near to Allah, there is no harm in eating from it. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
