The first question of Fatwa No. ( 6417 ):
Q1: We live in a village that has adhered to the noble Sunnah for a long time, and this Sunnah has been practiced in this village by the grace of Allah and then the efforts of our ancestors (may Allah have mercy on them). I was a contemporary of some of them, and Allah guided me to commitment, and praise be to Allah for establishing the Sunnah in the village and continuing that work for which Allah chose me, which is working in the field of da'wah (calling others to Islam) to the best of my ability. I have led the village in prayer since 1977 CE. After the recent events in Egypt , the Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments) sent a preacher to our village mosque. This preacher first enticed us by saying that he would continue on the path we follow. After he had established himself in the mosque, he said: "We want to place a radio device to recite the Qur'an before the Friday prayer, as is the case in the other mosques" in Egypt . Naturally, the followers of Satan are many, and they agreed with him. They actually placed the radio on the loudspeaker before the prayer. I tried to prevent him from this action and cited the evidence for the impermissibility of reciting the Qur'an in a loud voice while people are praying, and that this action is reviving an innovation and killing a Sunnah. He said to me: "If this is prohibited, why is it widespread in all the mosques of Egypt ?" The innovations even reached the point where they placed the deceased's body in the coffin in front of the worshippers on Friday before the prayer, and we prayed for him on Friday while he was in front of us, then we performed the funeral prayer for him. I tried to prevent him from this action before the
Friday prayer; because this action is not prescribed, but he refused. He said: "This is the opinion of Imam Malik , and that is for the sake of caution." I said to him: "Imam Malik dislikes the funeral prayer in the mosque altogether." He was content with his opinion and rejected mine, and the door of innovations has now been opened to the people of the village with the arrival of this imam, and there will be more and more. So what should I do? There are people in the village who want the Sunnah and to stay away from innovations, and there is no mosque in the village other than this one. Should I leave the village and pray in one of the mosques that adhere to the Sunnah in Alexandria, and if I do this, there will be more innovations, and there are those who want the Sunnah but cannot travel a short distance to perform prayer in the other mosques that adhere to the Sunnah; because this type is rare in the countryside, in particular.
A1: First: Placing a radio device or similar to broadcast the Qur'an in a loud voice in the mosque on Friday before the imam arrives is not permissible. Second: Praying over the funeral in the mosque is permissible according to the stronger of the scholars' opinions; because the evidence for that is established. So it is not placed in front of the worshippers for the obligatory prayer until they finish it, then it is placed between them and the qiblah so they can pray over it the funeral prayer. Third: You should not leave praying with the aforementioned imam because of what you mentioned, and you should continue to advise him and explain the Sunnah to him
with its evidence, with wisdom and good exhortation, and arguing in the best manner, perhaps Allah will guide him and he will respond to you. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
