The ruling on praying over a funeral before the mosque imam
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q580: The questioner says: Some people go to the mosque where funerals are prayed over, and they pray over the deceased before the prayer, then they go to their mosque in their neighborhood or district. What is the ruling on that?
A580: One does not pray in a mosque before its imam, neither over funerals nor the obligatory prayer. This is usurping the imam’s authority. So either he sits and waits to pray with the mosque congregation, or he goes to his mosque and makes du'a for the deceased, in any place, or he goes to the cemetery and prays
over the deceased before burial, or prays over his grave after he has been buried. The matter is broad in this regard, and he should not make it difficult for himself.
