The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : I am the imam of a mosque, and I intend not to complete the recitation of the Qur'an in the tarawih prayer. But some of the congregation of the mosque desire, or even compel, me to do so. How should I deal with them? Do I follow my opinion or theirs?

The Shaykh : Follow your opinion, as long as completing the Qur'an with them would make the prayer long. Because if you are seeking to follow the Sunnah in the number of rak'ahs, how many rak'ahs would that be? Eleven. If you read a part (juz') with them every night, it would be difficult for them. But read what is easy. If you complete the Qur'an in the night prayer at the beginning and end of the month, that is good. And if you do not, it is not obligatory. So you should read what is easy. Here in the mosque, for many years, since we started limiting ourselves to eleven rak'ahs, we do not complete the Qur'an unless we are able to complete it in the nights of tahajjud at the end of the month.
