The claim that al-Khidr guards creation in the rivers and deserts

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 1727 ):

Q6: Is al-Khidr (peace be upon him) a guardian in the rivers and deserts and does he assist everyone who is lost if they call out to him?
A6: The correct opinion among scholars is that al-Khidr (peace be upon him) died before Allah sent His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him); based on His saying, the Exalted:
And We did not grant to any man before you eternity [on earth]; so if you die - would they be eternal?وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدَ أَفَإِنْ مِتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَالِدُونَ
[Al-Anbya 21:34]
, and on the assumption that he remained alive until he met our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Sunnah indicates that he died a limited time after the death of
our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as he (peace and blessings be upon him) stated in what is authentically narrated from him:
Do you see this night of yours? Indeed, at the head of a hundred years, no one who is on the face of the earth today will remain.أرأيتكم ليلتكم هذه فإنه على رأس مائة سنة لا يبقى على وجه الأرض ممن هو عليها اليوم أحد
. Accordingly, his status is that of the dead: he does not hear the call of one who calls him, nor does he respond to one who invokes him, nor does he guide one who is lost if they seek his guidance. And on the assumption that he is alive to this day, he is absent, and his status is that of other absent persons: it is not permissible to invoke him or seek his aid in times of hardship or ease; due to the generality of His saying, the Exalted:
so do not invoke with Allah anyone.فَلا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا
[Al-Jinn 72:18]
, and what has come in the same meaning in other verses. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
