Refuting the Argument of the Christians
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Paragraph (3): The Qur'an says: The Christians are to be judged by what is in the Gospel (5:47) from Surat al-Ma'idah?
Answer: This refers to the verse:[Al-Ma'idah 5:47] , and this
verse is not an argument for the Christians as they claim; because what is meant here is the Gospel that Allah revealed to 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him), not the distorted Gospel in which the sonship of 'Isa or his divinity with Allah is mentioned, or in which the impaling of 'Isa or his killing or his death before he was raised to the sky is mentioned, or in which the good news of the coming of Muhammad as a messenger from Allah has been removed. Then, if this verse is combined with what follows it from the saying of the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:48] , that indicates that one is not to be judged by the previous books, namely the Scrolls of Ibrahim, Musa, the Psalms of Dawud, the Torah, and the Gospel, except by what the Qur'an has confirmed from them and has not abrogated from their rulings; because of His saying in this verse: [Al-Ma'idah 5:48] . It has been established in paragraphs (1 and 4) that both the Jews and the Christians distorted the book of their prophet. Therefore, the obligatory thing in understanding the verses is to look at them as a group so that the meaning becomes coherent and the truth becomes clear, not to stop at the general parts of them seeking fitnah and confusion, the way of those in whose hearts is a deviation, and they have no aim except to argue with falsehood [At-Tawbah 9:32]
Answer: This refers to the verse:
And let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the defiantly disobedient.
وَلْيَحْكُمْ أَهْلُ الإِنْجِيلِ بِمَا أَنْـزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَحْكُمْ بِمَا أَنْـزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَverse is not an argument for the Christians as they claim; because what is meant here is the Gospel that Allah revealed to 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him), not the distorted Gospel in which the sonship of 'Isa or his divinity with Allah is mentioned, or in which the impaling of 'Isa or his killing or his death before he was raised to the sky is mentioned, or in which the good news of the coming of Muhammad as a messenger from Allah has been removed. And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it
وَأَنْـزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِconfirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it
