The third question of Fatwa No. ( 4143 ):
Q3: Did the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) Mi'raj from al-Masjid al-Aqsa to the heavens occur in spirit and body together, or in spirit only? What is the evidence?
A3: The position of the people of the Sunnah and the community is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa in spirit and body; for Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:[Al-Isra 17:1], and the word “His servant” is a name for both the spirit and the body. He was also raised from al-Masjid al-Aqsa to the heavens, peace and blessings be upon him, in spirit and body; for this is established by many hadiths mentioned by Ibn Kathir and others in his exegesis of the verse. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
