Fatwa No. ( 1621 ):
Q1: Is 'Isa ibn Maryam alive or dead? What is the evidence from the Book or the Sunnah? Q2: If he is alive or dead, where is he now, and what is the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah?
Vol. 1 and 2: 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) is alive and has not died to this day. The Jews did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; rather, it was made to appear so to them. Indeed, Allah raised him to the heavens with his body and his soul, and he is still in the heavens. The evidence for this is the saying of Allah the Exalted regarding the fabrication of the Jews and the refutation of it:[An-Nisa 4:157-158]
He (Glorified and Exalted is He) refuted the Jews' claim that they killed and crucified him, and informed that He raised him to Himself. This was from Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) as mercy for him and an honor for him, and to be a sign among His signs which He grants to whom He wills of His messengers. How numerous are the signs of Allah regarding 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace and blessings be upon him), first and last. The implication of the emphatic particle in His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):[An-Nisa 4:158] is that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) raised 'Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) with his body and his soul, so that the refutation of the claim of the Jews that they crucified and killed him is realized. This is because killing and crucifying essentially apply to the body; and because raising the soul alone does not contradict their claim of killing and crucifying, so raising the soul alone would not be a refutation of them; and because the name 'Isa (peace and blessings be upon him) is a reality for both the soul and the body, so it does not refer to one of them in an absolute sense unless there is a context, and there is no context here. And because raising his soul and his body together is the requirement of the perfection of the majesty of Allah, His wisdom, His honor, and His support of whom He wills of His messengers, as decreed by His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He) at the end of the verse: [An-Nisa 4:158] Further explanation and confirmation of this will come in the answer to the third question, if Allah wills.

(157) And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. (158) Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.
He (Glorified and Exalted is He) refuted the Jews' claim that they killed and crucified him, and informed that He raised him to Himself.
