The story of the man who ordered his sons to burn him after his death and scatter his ashes for fear that Allah would gather him and hold him accountable for his deeds, and what is derived from it regarding the rules of declaring someone a disbeliever

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Have you heard his saying (peace be upon him):
There was among those before you a man who never did any good. When death approached him, he said to his sons
He asked them about him as a father?
They said to him: You were the best of fathers to us. He said: I am a sinner with my Lord, and if Allah has power over me
Tawhid or disbelief?
The student : Disbelief.
Another student : He doubted the power.

The Shaykh : No, you have to answer in my way, not in your way. Disbelief or not? Tell me, disbelief.
The student : Disbelief.

The Shaykh : Look at what Allah is doing with him now:
if Allah gets hold of me, he will punish me in a way that He will not punish anyone else
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2079Sahih (Darussalam)
: This is an example of what we mentioned earlier, that it may be practical disbelief accompanied by creedal disbelief. Here now: He did not just say: "If Allah has power over me, He will surely punish me with a severe punishment." He coupled it with an action. So, in my opinion and according to my knowledge, he left a will that no one before him has left, and no one after him will follow in that:
He said: So when I die, burn me in the fire, then take half of me and throw it in the sea, and half of me in the wind
, they burned him in the fire, they took the ash, half of it in the sea and half of it in the wind,
So Allah said to him: Be so-and-so, meaning: My servant, what drove you to what you did? He said: My Lord, I feared You
Allah is the Greatest!
He said: Then I have forgiven you
So this was a polytheist who was forgiven. What is the secret? The secret is that his fear of the punishment of Allah blinded his insight from the power of Allah in which he used to believe. Otherwise, if he had originally denied the resurrection, Allah says:
And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?"
[Ya-Sin 36:78]
This is like the disbelieving polytheist. But this man in particular was not a disbeliever in the resurrection, the rising, the reckoning, and what is beyond that. But out of his fear of his Lord, because he knew his sin and had never done any good, he left that strange, very unusual will. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) dealt with him by his intention, not by his action. Also, my brothers, the issue of declaring someone a disbeliever is a very terrifying issue.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : As for those who write, it is enough for you to know, meaning without hearing the details from the scholars of knowledge: It is enough for you to know that these are novices, meaning young in age. Where did this knowledge come to them that is opposed by the Salaf and the Khalaf, the followers of the Salaf? When did it become easy for them to acquire this knowledge?! It is nothing but destructive desires, and I seek refuge in Allah, and there is no power and no strength except in Allah.
The student : The saying of this man, my Shaykh, is like the one who said out of extreme joy:
0 Lord, Thou art my servant and I am Thine Lord
Sahih Muslim 2747a
?

The Shaykh :
Thou art my servant and I am Thine Lord
Sahih Muslim 2747a
.
The student : Out of extreme joy, he stopped gathering. This one, out of extreme fear, forgot.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : All right, my Shaykh, you did not mention the hadith. There was a brother who asked if it contradicts His saying (the Exalted):
Or [consider such an example] as the one who passed by a township
[Al-Baqarah 2:259]
the verse?

The Shaykh : You are asking about contradiction, and I am not aware of it. How can I answer you?

The questioner : We mentioned this.

The Shaykh : Where is the contradiction?

The questioner : We said: Where is the contradiction? You mentioned it to us again. Then, if Allah wills, we will bring you the answer. So he mentioned the hadith and the verse and paused. I do not see a contradiction.

The Shaykh : There is no god but Allah.
The student : ... they consider them people of disbelief, they did not see the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

The Shaykh : This reminds us of the misguidance of some contemporary writers. He passed away, we ask Allah for his forgiveness and mercy. Look now at the effects of ignorance and being deceived by fragments of knowledge. There is a hadith in Sahih Muslim with its authentic chain, narrated by Hammad ibn Salama, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik, the servant of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for ten years: That a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and said: O Messenger of Allah, where is my father? He said:
in the Fire في النار
: A man is suddenly struck by news from the Truthful, the Verifier, from which falsehood does not come from before him or from behind him: That his father is in the Fire. What will happen to him? This sadness will strike him, and he will return from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) sad and dejected. So the Messenger called him to console him, to lighten his sadness:
he said : My father and your father are in Hell.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4718Sahih (Al-Albani)
; as if he is saying: I am the master of people on the Day of Resurrection, and yet my father is in the Fire.
