The questioner: This is a small fiqh question... small, I mean.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner: ... A man performed Hajj for himself as an individual Hajj (ifrad) and did not perform 'Umrah, and then wants to perform Hajj for his mother and 'Umrah the following year. Is it valid for him to perform 'Umrah on behalf of another person... meaning, he has not performed 'Umrah for himself?

The Shaykh: In terms of validity, it is valid. However, in terms of what we advise, he should not perform a complete Hajj on behalf of another person while he has performed an incomplete Hajj for himself. He should reverse this by performing the second Hajj in accordance with what came in the Book and the Sunnah regarding combining Hajj and 'Umrah, namely by the method of tamattu'. Then, after that, if Allah makes it easy for him, he can perform Hajj on behalf of his father and his mother. As for him being content with the incomplete Hajj, that is not what we advise.
