The ruling on performing 'Umrah on behalf of another and Hajj for oneself, and the reverse

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: He also asks: Is it permissible for one who performs 'Umrah on behalf of another for a fee to perform Hajj for himself?
The answer: There is no harm. If a person performs 'Umrah on behalf of another, he may perform Hajj for himself. Or if he performs 'Umrah for himself, he may perform Hajj on behalf of another, provided he has already performed Hajj for himself. The point is that if he has performed 'Umrah for himself and Hajj for himself, there is nothing wrong with performing Hajj on behalf of others, such as the deceased or those unable to do so due to old age. He may perform it on behalf of his relatives, his deceased, or others; there is nothing wrong with it. The important thing is that he does not perform Hajj on behalf of anyone until he has performed Hajj for himself, and he does not perform 'Umrah on behalf of anyone until he has performed 'Umrah for himself. Hajj is once in a lifetime, and 'Umrah is once in a lifetime. Anything beyond this is a recommended practice (sunnah) and voluntary. If a person performs 'Umrah on behalf of another, such as his mother or father, during the months of Hajj, and then performs Hajj for himself, he is performing tamattu'. Or if he performs 'Umrah for himself and then performs Hajj on behalf of another, he is performing tamattu' in the same year, provided the 'Umrah was during the months of Hajj.
