This is a message from the listener Rashed ibn Ahmad al-Rashid, in which he says: If a person performs 'Umrah on behalf of one Muslim and Hajj on behalf of another, is that permissible for him with their permission, given that he has previously performed 'Umrah and Hajj for himself?!
Answer: As mentioned earlier, there is no harm in being a person performing 'Umrah on behalf of Zayd and Hajj on behalf of 'Amr. He performs 'Umrah on behalf of Zayd and Hajj on behalf of 'Amr. He performs 'Umrah on behalf of his mother and Hajj on behalf of his father. He performs 'Umrah on behalf of his brother and Hajj on behalf of his sister, and so on. He is a Mutamatti' in all of this, as long as he performs the 'Umrah and Hajj in the same year during the months of Hajj. He is a Mutamatti' absolutely, whether the Hajj and 'Umrah are for himself or for others, or this one is for one person and the other for another person; it is all the same. He is called a Mutamatti', and upon him is the prescribed Hadi, one Fidyah: one-seventh of a camel, or one-seventh of a cow, or a two-year-old goat, or a one-year-old sheep. This is the prescribed Hadi for the Mutamatti' and the Qarin. Yes.
The presenter: But regarding the Hadi—O Shaykh—on whom does it fall?
The Shaykh: On him, on the one who performed the Hajj and 'Umrah, whether he did it voluntarily on behalf of others or for a fee. Yes.
The presenter: But.
The Shaykh: He is the one who carried out the matter.
The presenter: He is the one who carried out the matter, but in this case, he has neither Hajj nor 'Umrah for himself?
The Shaykh: No, he is to be hoped for reward if he has a good intention, if Allah wills. It is to be hoped that he shares in the good.
The presenter: But it is not obligatory...
The Shaykh: And he has many Tawafs to perform for himself, and prayers, and acts of worship that he does, and he is in a good state, if Allah wills, with a good intention.
The presenter: In fact, it is circulated among the general Muslim public that if a person performs Hajj or 'Umrah on behalf of someone for a fee, then everything he does, except for the prayer and the things he used to do in his country, all goes to the person for whom he performed Hajj or 'Umrah.
The Shaykh: It is known that what pertains to Hajj belongs to the person for whom Hajj is performed: his Tawaf, his Sa'y, his stoning of the pillars. Everything pertaining to the obligations and pillars of Hajj belongs to the pilgrim. As for him, it is to be hoped that he gets a reward like his if he intends it. If he has a good intention, it is to be hoped that he gets a reward like his. Also, the Tawafs he performs for himself, the voluntary Tawafs in Makkah, he also gets reward for that. Likewise, his prayers in Makkah, his charity, his Tasbih, his Takbir, all of this is for him. The person for whom Hajj is performed does not get the Sunnahs. The person for whom Hajj is performed gets the matters of Hajj, the obligations of Hajj, and the pillars of Hajj; these are for him. He may also get the reward of the Sunnahs. He may get the reward of the Sunnahs related to the Sunnahs, such as the two Rak'ahs of Tawaf, such as the Dhikr he does during Sa'y and Tawaf. The pilgrim may get the reward for that, and he himself may also get a reward like his. This may be the case because this is attached to Tawaf and Sa'y. The Dhikr and supplications therein, their reward is attached to Tawaf and Sa'y. So it may be for the person for whom Hajj is performed because it is a follower of Tawaf and Sa'y. And it may be that the reward for that is for the proxy pilgrim because he is doing it voluntarily, because the Dhikr is not obligatory and the supplication is not obligatory. It is possible. And in any case, he is in a good state, if Allah wills.
