What is the ruling on adding to the adhan?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on adding to the adhan?

The Shaykh : The adhan is a prescribed act of worship with specific dhikr that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) specified for his ummah by his approval of it. Therefore, it is not permissible for a person to transgress the limits of Allah in it or to add anything to it from himself for which there is no established text. If he does so, it will be rejected, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected. من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, and in another wording:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected. من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
.
If a person adds something to the adhan for which there is no text, or rather for which no text is established, he has departed from what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Muslims are upon regarding what he added. As all Muslims know, the Shari'ah is based on divine legislation and is received from the Lawgiver. Therefore, what the Shari'ah has brought, we must worship Allah with it, whether it is recommended in the case of recommended acts or obligatory in the case of obligatory acts. And what the Shari'ah has not brought, we have no right to precede Allah and His Messenger by adding to it or subtracting from it.
