Is it permissible for the ma'mum to follow the imam when there is a barrier between them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : A second question.
Is it permissible for the ma'mum to follow the imam when there is a barrier between them?
The detailed answer is as follows: If the barrier is due to the mosque being narrow, meaning the mosque is crowded with worshippers and there is no space left for prayer, then it is permissible, whether for a man or a woman. As for the man, if he prays in the mosque and there is no barrier between him and the imam, but there is a gap in front of the row where he could stand and pray, and he does so and prays alone, then he has no prayer. However, if other people pray with him and the gap remains a gap, the prayer is valid, but he and the one who formed the row with him are sinful. This is because it is obligatory for each of them to close the gap. As long as the gap is not closed and the row is formed while it remains a gap, they are all sinful, but their prayer is valid. This is different from the case where one of them prays alone in the row and the gap remains a gap; in that case, the prayer is invalid. This is regarding men.
As for women, if a woman prays behind a barrier, such as a wall or something similar, because the mosque is narrow and if she prays inside it she would mix with the men, then she prays behind the barrier and her prayer is valid. However, if the mosque is spacious, like our mosque here, and the men form one or two rows, she is able to pray behind them in one or two rows with complete ease and comfort. In this case, if she prays outside the mosque while hearing the imam's voice, her prayer is also not valid.
This detail must be taken into account. The important point is that the barrier is sometimes considered and sometimes not; that is, sometimes it is harmful and sometimes it is not. It is harmful when a person is able to pray and the barrier is behind him, not in front of him. It is not harmful if he is not able to pray. The details were mentioned previously.
