The Shaykh: So this slave whom the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - chose for Abu al-Tayhan was among those captives who, when they were captured, became Muslims. He came to the Messenger - peace be upon him - as a captive while he was praying. When Abu al-Tayhan sought his advice and said: "Choose for me, O Messenger of Allah," he - peace be upon him - said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 256 , and this hadith: is among the meanings of the saying of the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - : . They said: "For whom, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: Sahih Muslim 55a , so this is an application of the last part of this hadith . Abu al-Tayhan was among the general Muslims, so when the Messenger - peace be upon him - sought his advice to choose one of the two heads, i.e., the two slaves, he advised him - peace be upon him - by saying: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 256 and explained to him why he chose this one for him, because first, the one who is consulted is trusted. O Abu al-Tayhan, it is as if the Messenger - peace be upon him - is saying: O Abu al-Tayhan, you consulted me, and it is like what the common people say today, "You have entered my share," meaning you are under my responsibility and my trust, so I must advise you after you have consulted me. So the one who is consulted is trusted, meaning he must fulfill the trust and not betray the one who consulted him. Then he said to him: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 256 , and the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - did not suffice with ordering Abu al-Tayhan to take this slave on the basis that he prays, but he followed that with advice directed to Abu al-Tayhan, saying to him: . Since he is among those who pray, the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - had to advise Abu al-Tayhan with another piece of advice. He had advised him regarding choosing the best of the two slave heads, but it remained for the Messenger - peace be upon him - to advise Abu al-Tayhan specifically about this righteous slave whom he chose for Abu al-Tayhan as his servant. So the Messenger - peace be upon him - said to Abu al-Tayhan: , ordering him to treat him with kindness.
The person who is consulted is in a position of trust. Take this one. I have seen him pray.
