The questioner : What is your opinion regarding the validation by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) of the story of the hadith:
Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire من كذب علي متمداً فيتبوأ مقعده من النار
which indicates that the fabrication occurred during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? And if the story is authentic, is it valid for the Rafidah to use it as evidence for denouncing the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)?

The Shaykh : The story is authentic, and the argument of the Rafidah against them is what they deserve. They will not escape from what they have brought upon us, as they did before others, because they believe in some of the Companions and declare disbelief in the majority of the Companions. So what they bring against all of our Companions is returned against some of our Companions in whom they believe, and there is no difference. This is from one aspect.
From another aspect, we say: Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the Guardian of His religion, and part of His guarding of His religion is that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) exposed the fabrication of that man against his Prophet and inspired him to warn his Ummah from falling into something like his lie. He said:
He who lies about me deliberately will certainly come to his abode in Hell. من كذب عليَّ متعمِّدًا فليتبوَّأ مقعده من النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 3651Sahih (Al-Albani)
This hadith and its like were a deterrent for the Imams of the people of the Sunnah, not for the scholars of the Shi'ah. I do not say the Imams of the Shi'ah, because the Shi'ah have no Imams. If they have true Imams like Ja'far al-Sadiq and the known people of the Household of the Prophet who are renowned for their knowledge and virtue, they are our Imams, not their Imams, because they fabricate against them a lot, and a very great deal.
My point is that this hadith, for which that occasion arose and Allah inspired His Prophet to say as a warning:
He who lies about me deliberately will certainly come to his abode in Hell. من كذب عليَّ متعمِّدًا فليتبوَّأ مقعده من النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 3651Sahih (Al-Albani)
, was this hadith and its like among the reasons that led the Imams of the people of the Sunnah, not the scholars of the Shi'ah, to establish the science of hadith terminology and the science of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil (the critique and vindication of narrators). This is a point by which the people of the Sunnah surpass the Shi'ah in a way that destroys their religion from its root and branch. That is because the scholars of the Shi'ah have no principles in the science of hadith, and they have no books on the biographies of the narrators of the hadiths of the Household of the Prophet, especially those connected to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Salman al-Farisi, and the few Companions in whose companionship they have confidence. They have no knowledge of hadith terminology or the biographies of the men of hadith. Indeed, as some of the Imams from the Salaf (the earliest generations) said: "The isnad (chain of narration) is part of the religion, and were it not for the isnad, whoever wished would say what he wished". Consequently, the scholars of today, even some of the disbelievers among them, said from the perspective of: "And the virtue is that which the enemies have testified to". They said: "The isnad is a distinctive feature of this Muhammadan Ummah". It is not only we, the Muslims, who say and take pride in what we say: "The isnad is a distinctive feature of this Muhammadan Ummah", but some of the disbelieving Orientalists and Arabists among them have testified to this true testimony that the isnad is a speciality of this Ummah in which no one shares with it. And I, quoting from this consensus of the scholars, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, quote and say: This isnad, which is a distinctive feature among the distinctive features of the Ummah of Islam—I do not say the Ummah of Islam in its entirety, but this is a distinctive feature for the people of the Sunnah, not for the people of the Shi'ah, let alone the other sects, because they have no isnads. Their isnads are broken with them before the Messenger (peace be upon him) by stages. And these broken isnads, they cannot prove their authenticity based on the shallow and few biographies they have. And what does a person say when some of the extremists of the Shi'ah admit that the most authentic book they have, after the Book of Allah—if they have an authentic one, for they claim that this Noble Qur'an is incomplete and is only completed by the Mushaf of 'A'ishah? Where is it?

The questioner : Fatimah.

The Shaykh : Pardon me, where is the Mushaf of Fatimah? It is in the realm of loss. If they rely on the Mushaf, they do not rely on anything from the Sunnah that is authentic, because the most authentic book they have is the one known as *Usul al-Kafi*. Some of their writers have criticized it in some of the editions printed for this book in hundreds of hadiths, and they claim that it corresponds to our book *Sahih al-Bukhari*, which follows the Book of our Lord in authenticity. So where is this compared to that? The matter is as was said long ago, even if not on this occasion. And with this verse of poetry, I conclude my speech, because the time has grown late and my voice has become hoarse, so please excuse me. I say to these people:
"This difference between us is sufficient for you *** And every vessel gushes forth with what is in it"
And peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

The questioner : And prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and upon his Household and his Companions. You have heard what our dear teacher said about this one who lied about the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) during the lifetime of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not far-fetched that this was one of the hypocrites. The hypocrites, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) has recorded their lying in the Noble Qur'an. Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said:
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars. إذا جاءك المنافقون * قالوا نشهد إنك لرسول الله والله يعلم إنك لرسوله والله يشهد إن المنافقين لكاذبون
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
So they were lying in their testimony to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) regarding His divinity and to Muhammad regarding his messengership. And praise be to Allah that when the Islamic Ummah documented and wrote biographies of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), they did not write a biography for any of the hypocrites, and they did not name any of these hypocrites as a Companion. And what is established regarding the Companions, and praise be to Allah, which is among their noble qualities and virtues, is that none of them ever lied. No lie was recorded against any of the Companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And this is acknowledged by some of the Imams of the Shi'ah whom Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) saved from their misguidance. And this is Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), despite the disagreement between him and 'Ali, and despite the error he fell into in the view of the Muslims, did not narrate a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the virtue of himself, nor about the virtue of the Household of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with them). And this indicates the extent of the truthfulness of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and their distance from lying. And due to the ignorance of the Shi'ah, meaning they do not understand such verses
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
, otherwise they would have argued with such a verse, may the curse of Allah be upon them. And this is sufficient.

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you.
