What is the authenticity of the hadith: "Whoever speaks about the Qur'an without knowledge, let him take his seat from the Fire"?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Then there is also a hadith, and let us recall the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Whoever says (something) about the Qur'an without knowledge, then let him take his seat in the Fire. من قال في القرآن بغير علم فليتبوأ مقعده من النار
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2950Da'if (Darussalam)
What is its degree of authenticity?

The Shaykh : This is authentic. This is a well-known, authentic hadith. That is, whoever speaks without knowledge, let him take his seat from the Fire. This is understood to apply to one who interprets the Qur'an with his own opinion, not with what the Shari'ah requires, or what the Arabic language requires. For example, the interpretation of the people of desires: they interpret the Qur'an with their opinions. For instance, regarding the saying of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He):
Rather, both His hands are extended بَلْ يَدَاهُ مَبْسُوطَتَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:64]
He says: The meaning of "hands" is grace; it is not the actual hand.
He says:
He rose above the Throne اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ
Meaning: He took control of it, and the like of that. This is interpreting the Qur'an with one's opinion. As for one who interprets the Qur'an with what the Shari'ah requires, or with what the language requires where there is no specific Shari'ah reality, then there is nothing wrong with that.
