What is the description of the Night of Decree? I hope you will explain its nature to us, as many people are ignorant of it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: What is the description of the Night of Decree? I hope you will explain its nature to us, as many people are ignorant of it.

The Shaykh : As for its physical nature, it is not of importance. As for its spiritual nature, listen to it in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(1) Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. (2) And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? (3) The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. (4) The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. (5) Peace it is until the emergence of dawn. إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر وما أدراك ما ليلة القدر ليلة القدر خير من ألف شهر تنزل الملائكة والروح فيها بإذن ربهم من كل أمر سلام هي حتى مطلع الفجر
[Al-Qadr 97:1-5]
And what indicates its importance is that Allah revealed a complete surah in it, and that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, singled it out for the revelation of the Qur'an in it. And its exaltation came in this form: "And what makes you know what the Night of Decree is?" This indicates its magnification. As for its physical nature, one of its signs is that the night becomes bright, to the point that some said it becomes so bright that it is as if there is a moon in it. It becomes bright, and the believing person in it finds his chest open and his heart at peace, and he finds a pleasure in worship that he does not find in any other time. There is also a subsequent sign that does not appear in that same night, which is that the sun rises in its morning without rays, as that came in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). But I am glad to tell you that if a person strives in all the nights of the ten days, he has certainly attained the Night of Decree. How is that? Because the Night of Decree does not go outside these ten nights. In fact, a group of the Companions saw the Night of Decree in the last seven nights, meaning on the twenty-third and after. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I see that your dreams agree regarding the last week; so he who wants to seek it should seek it in the last week (during the night). أرى رؤياكم قد تواطأت في السبع الأواخر فمن كان متحريها فليتحرها في السبع الأواخر
Sahih Muslim 1165a
Therefore, the last seven nights are more likely to contain the Night of Decree than the rest of the ten. In any case, I advise myself and you to be humble and submissive in them during the prayer and after it, and to supplicate to Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, for whatever you desire from the matters of this world and the Hereafter. Perhaps you will hit upon a breath from the breaths of Allah that will be a cause of your happiness.
