The Hundred and Third: "The Chapter on When a Slave Advises His Master"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The Hundred and Third: "The Chapter on When a Slave Advises His Master"

The questioner: Advice.

The Shaykh : "When a slave advises his master": Imam al-Bukhari narrates in his book *Al-Adab al-Mufrad* with a sound chain from Abu Musa — who is al-Ash'ari — who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The slave who is excellent in the worship of his Lord and fulfils the duties of obedience and counsel which he owes to his master, has two rewards.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 204
.
This is like the previous hadiths in the last lesson, which explained the virtue of the slave who fulfills the obligation of obeying Allah (Mighty and Majestic) on one hand, and obeying his master on the other; thus, he receives two rewards. It appears from this hadith that the slave is successful with Allah (Mighty and Majestic) simply by fulfilling the obligation of the two obediences: obeying Allah on one hand, and obeying his master on the other. Therefore, in some of the following hadiths, it will soon be mentioned that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), because of this ease in the slave's success, wished to be a slave. Abu Hurayrah, who was free, wished to be a slave because he would be free to devote himself to obedience: obeying Allah (Mighty and Majestic) on one hand, and being sincere in his obedience to his master on the other. Thus, this hadith indicates that the slave's path to success is easy, unlike the master's. Therefore, the free master, Abu Hurayrah, as will be mentioned shortly, wished to be a slave, were it not for the obligations upon him. The second hadith is another narration by Imam al-Bukhari from the hadith of Abu Burdah from his father, who is Abu Musa al-Ash'ari himself in the previous hadith. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The slave has two rewards when he carries out Allah's due in worship المَملُوكُ لَهُ أَجرَانِ إِذَا أَدَّى حَقَّ اللَّهِ فِي عِبَادَتِهِ
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 205
. Or he said:
that he is excellent in his worship) and the right of his owner who owns him.فِي حُسنِ عِبَادَتِهِ وَحَقَّ مَلِيكِه الَّذِي يملكُهُ
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 205
