The Shaykh: Then the author said in the chapter that follows: "The Chapter of the One Who Points to Good." Meaning, and explaining the reward he has for it. Then he narrated with his authentic chain from Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have been stranded, so carry me. He said:
I do not have any. But go to so-and-so and perhaps he will give you one.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 242
So he went to him and carried him, and he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and he said:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.
Sahih Muslim 1893a
. A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have been stranded. Meaning: he was a traveler and was riding his mount, but it encountered an incident that caused him to be cut off from the journey, or it caused him to be unable to continue. His saying "I have been stranded" means: I was cut off on the road, either because his mount became exhausted and tired, or because it died, so he was unable to continue his journey until he could follow the path to the destination he had intended. "I have been stranded" means I was cut off on the road. "Carry me" means: give me what you have that helps me continue the journey and the road, from mounts, a camel or a donkey or something similar of riding animals. So he answered him (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) with an excuse: "I do not find
But go to so-and-so and perhaps he will give you one.

" to give you what would carry you and get you to your destination. So the man went to the one the Messenger directed him to, and he came to him and actually carried him, mounting him on something. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, and he said:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.
Sahih Muslim 1893a
. The Messenger (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) is indicating in this hadith that the one who engages in the cause has the ruling of the one who is caused, the traveler. So when that man who was stranded and cut off on the road asked the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) for what would carry him, and the Messenger excused himself by saying he did not find it, he said: "Go to so-and-so," in the Messenger's (peace and blessings be upon him) opinion that he would be generous with what would carry him from mounts, so he said to him: "Perhaps he will carry you." And indeed, he went to him and he carried him. The man who had been cut off returned to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as if saying to him: Your mediation and your pointing out have benefited me; the man carried me, and by that I was able to continue the road and reach my path. So he said (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him), teaching people to do as he did and to point people to good as he pointed, and encouraging them to do so by saying:
One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.
Sahih Muslim 1893a
. And from here came the concise and brief phrase from this hadith: "The one who points to good is like the one who does it." So this is close to the famous authentic hadith which has passed by us on some occasions:
even if with half a date. But if you fail to find it (then protect yourselves against Fire) with the help of a pleasant word
Sahih Muslim 1016d
. Is it not from the good word that if a man comes to me asking for my help with money, and I say to him: "I do not find what I can offer you from money, but go to so-and-so, perhaps he will give you what you need," and he went to him and he gave it to him, then the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is true in this and in examples like it:
even if with half a date. But if you fail to find it (then protect yourselves against Fire) with the help of a pleasant word
Sahih Muslim 1016d
. If you do not have charity, then point to one who gives charity. This hadith is in the manner of this hadith, but this hadith that came to us in the book clarifies to us that the one who points to charity and the one who points to good, whatever the type of this good is, his reward is like the reward of the doer. So the one who pointed to charity has the same reward as that one who gave charity, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who pointed that one who was stranded to the one who would carry him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has the same reward as that one who carried him.
