The Shaykh : He followed that hadith containing that dispensation with his statement: "A chapter in which lying is not permissible." Then he cited beneath it with his authentic chain of narration: From Abdullah—and here he is Abdullah ibn Mas'ud—from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 386 or a liar.
In this hadith, as is clear and evident, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) urged all people, men and women, married and unmarried, to adhere to truthful speech. This is equivalent in expression to saying: "It is obligatory for you to hold fast to truthfulness." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) provided the reason for this with an explanatory clause, saying: Muwatta Malik 56:16 It leads to righteousness, it leads to good deeds. So whoever’s foundation and constant habit in his speech is truthfulness, this truthfulness opens for him a path to righteousness and to good. And what comes after that? He said: Sahih Muslim 2607a Meaning it becomes a cause for the one who committed to truthfulness in his speech to be admitted to Paradise. This is similar to the well-known authentic hadith in Muslim and others: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2682Da'if (Darussalam) So seeking knowledge is a cause that leads one to Paradise. Why? This is a clear matter, because through knowledge a person recognizes what is lawful and comes to it and enjoys it, recognizes what is obligatory and comes to it and worships Allah with it, and recognizes what is forbidden and avoids it, and thereby becomes a pious person in the sight of Allah, and thus the person reaches Paradise. So when a Muslim commits to truthfulness in his speech and his conversation, this truthfulness will stamp him with the mark of good and the mark of righteousness, and this will guide him to Paradise. And conversely, if one commits to lying, here is a phrase in which the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 386 And in another narration: And this is clearer than the author’s narration here. It may imply that he tells the truth often, but the other narration: is more emphatic in clarifying that this man’s habit and character is to speak in his conversation constantly with what is truth and corresponds to reality, so this man continues to tell the truth until he is recorded in the sight of Allah as a truthful one (Siddiq). And this is a high station that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) rarely described one of His servants with, except that He mentioned His Prophet and His intimate friend Ibrahim (peace be upon him), where He said of him: [Maryam 19:41].
You must be truthful. Truthfulness leads to dutifulness and dutifulness leads to the Garden. A man continues to tell the truth until he is written as a siddiq with Allah. Beware of lying. Lying leads to deviance and deviance leads to the Fire. A man continues to lie until he is written as a liar with Allah.
