The Shaykh : Now we have a hadith with a sound chain, narrated by 'Abdullah, and 'Abdullah here is 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), the noble Companion of the Badr campaign. He narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1977Hasan (Darussalam). This hadith does not need any commentary or explanation, for it is clear in itself.
; that is, "hey" is an intensive form meaning he slanders people without right. Know that this trait is among the ugliest traits and the most heinous morals by which a Muslim is blamed, and he deserves to enter the Fire even if the amount of this bad character he has adopted—slandering people—is less than a little. That is because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said in an authentic hadith: Sahih Muslim 91c The hadith is long, and we have mentioned it more than once in its entirety. In it, the Companions asked him, with one of them loving to be seen in fine clothes, another in fine sandals, and the third in a fine garment, meaning...; they asked him, is this from arrogance? So the answer in all of that was no, no, no: Sahih Muslim 91a. They said: Then what is arrogance? He said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1999Sahih (Darussalam).
Rejecting the truth is: turning away from the truth after it has become apparent, and belittling people is: slandering them without right. So whoever has a trait of this arrogance, which the Messenger (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him) defined as rejecting the truth after it has become apparent, or slandering a Muslim without right, he does not enter Paradise. Therefore, this trait from which the Messenger (peace be upon him) absolved the believer is among the most heinous traits mentioned in this context; and it is slandering. So he said (peace be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1977Hasan (Darussalam) for another; also without reason. And we have detailed the discussion in a past lesson about cursing, in what is permissible and in what is not permissible.
Then he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1977Hasan (Darussalam), the obscene and the foul-mouthed are approximately the same meaning; and it is foulness of the tongue and obscenity in speech.
The believer does not insult the honor of others, nor curse, nor commit Fahishah, nor is he foul.
The believer is not one who slanders.
He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise.
Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace
إنَّ الله جميلٌ يحبُّ الجمالpride is refusing the truth and belittling the people
Rejecting the truth is: turning away from the truth after it has become apparent, and belittling people is: slandering them without right. So he said (peace be upon him):
The believer does not insult the honor of others, nor curse
Then he said:
nor commit Fahishah, nor is he foul.
