My husband divorced me with a revocable divorce. Is it permissible for me to uncover myself in front of him or to sleep with him on the marital bed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : Peace be upon you, Shaykh Nasser?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : May Allah grant you well-being.

The Shaykh : May Allah forgive you.

The questioner : If you are doing a favor, my master, the Shaykh, then with your permission I would like to ask you a few questions, if you are free and will graciously answer me.

The Shaykh : Please, go ahead.

The questioner : My master, a divorce was pronounced on me by my husband. I have been married to him for eighteen years. Hello.

The Shaykh : Yes, yes, I am listening to you.

The questioner : Yes, so the important thing I want to tell you is that my husband is an excellent person; everyone says he is excellent. However, I know and feel, I mean I see, that he is a person whom Allah may forgive, and may Allah... and Allah knows that I do not cease to pray for him. He had some deviation, and he had, I mean, women. But let us leave that aside; let us stick to what is useful. Now, a divorce was pronounced on me, and he is also of the type—Allah is my witness that I am one of the women who wear the hijab—and this is what causes the great conflict in our home. I praise Allah, Lord of the Worlds, that I am mindful of my Lord and walking upon my religion. Allah is a witness to me and to everything I say. He is of the type of man who has a propensity for intoxication, or who gets drunk and drinks, meaning at the same time. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, he has a propensity for deviation. What happened is that now a divorce was pronounced on me, and I am sitting in his house. The people of good advised us, on the basis that we have children, that I remain present with him inside the house, on the basis that it is a revocable divorce, perhaps and hopefully that our being together... and this is not the first time, and the first problem is that we have problems, I mean we always have problems, I and him, always, from his wrong deeds and his deviations, I mean from the actions—I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan—that he performs. And you know how many deviant men there are these days, and how much of the Ummah is a corrupt quantity of people whom Allah may guide.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : So what happened is that I and him, after the first one was pronounced, I mean it has been eleven days since the divorce was pronounced on me. So I was sleeping in a room and he in a room. And even at some point, suddenly I jumped up and covered my head, I mean I started putting something on my head. And when I asked the lawyer, on the basis that I was divorced, whether I had become forbidden to him or not, what I must do with him, how I must treat him in the house, all of this, I had no knowledge of it. And because I, praise be to Allah, am walking upon the religion correctly, I do not want to fall into the forbidden through this matter. So honestly, today I learned that there is no obstacle to me sleeping with him in the same marital bed. So I said, before I do this thing and proceed with it, I want to ask you: does this happen or does it not happen? He is in a room and I am in a room until yesterday. So what is your opinion on the matter?

The Shaykh : How many years have you been married?

The questioner : Eighteen.
The student : Peace be upon you, how are you, my Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Welcome.

The questioner : Hello, hello.

The Shaykh : Wait a moment.

The questioner : Hello, hello.

The Shaykh : Wait for me a moment, hello.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Wait for me a little.

The questioner : Okay, okay.

The Shaykh : Is there any divorce other than this one? The important thing, the important thing, there is no other divorce; this is the first divorce. So...
The student: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, welcome.
If the matter is as you described, then this divorce, as you said, is a revocable divorce, that is from one aspect. From another aspect as well, the matter is as was told to you, completely: you are not forbidden to him now, so you may treat him as you did before this divorce. But if he does not take you back before your waiting period expires, if the waiting period expires and he does not take you back, then at that time you become forbidden to him. Do you understand? Yes, no, no, all of that is lawful, and that constitutes his taking you back. No, the court case, this is an official matter. Yes, there is no obstacle, I mean whether it is like this or like that. Yes, indeed, without a doubt. May Allah preserve you.
