The Shaykh : On this occasion, we mention the saying of the Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) in what is authentic from him in the hadith that he went out one day at midday, in the heat of the day, and he found Abu Bakr al-Siddiq and asked him: . He said: Hunger. Then, after a short time, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab met them at midday; meaning at a time when it is not the nature of people in those hot lands to go out, so the Messenger (peace be upon him) asked him: . He said: Hunger. He (peace be upon him) said: , and the three of them set out walking until they reached the house of a man from the Ansar known as Abu al-Tayhan. He knocked on the door, and his wife came out and greeted them. Her husband had gone out for a benefit of his own, and soon he came and found the Messenger (peace be upon him) and his two noble companions had arrived at his home. He rejoiced greatly at this, so he ordered his wife to prepare bread for them, and he slaughtered a kid or a ewe that he had, then he roasted some of this ewe for them, and brought them cold water, and picked for them some fresh dates and dry dates, and set before them this food, which is the most delicious food in those lands. So they ate and drank and were refreshed with the dates and fresh dates. Then he (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said—and the point here is—: , [At-Takathur 102:8].
What is behind this question? Behind it is that the answer should be an acknowledgment that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is the One who bestowed this blessing upon this person, and that this person has fulfilled the obligation of thanking Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for His many blessings. As for if he is ungrateful, then as He (the Exalted) said:[Ali 'Imran 3:97]. So, if we find ourselves living in a blessing by which Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) has preferred us over other people, we must thank Him with a special thanks for this preference and this specific designation by which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has distinguished us with a blessing from His many blessings. This is because there are blessings shared by all servants, and there are blessings that are specific, by which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) distinguishes whom He wills of His servants.
What brought you out?
ما أخرَجَك ؟What brought you out?
ما أخرَجَك ؟And I, too, was not brought out except by hunger
وأنا - أيضًا - ما أخرجني إلا الجوعThis is of the bliss for which you will be asked on the Day of Resurrection
هذا من النعيم الذي ستسألون عنه يوم القيامةThen you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.
