Explanation of the hadith mentioned by Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) to Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) when he came to visit him.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The following hadith is hasan (good), and it is his statement: It was narrated from Abu Sufyan from his elders that Sa'd came to visit Salman. He said: So he wept. Sa'd said: What makes you cry, O Abu 'Abdullah? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away while he was pleased with you, and you will drink from his pool and meet your companions. He said: I am not weeping out of panic over death or greed for this world, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) left us with a covenant. He said — the covenant is explained by his statement:
Let what one of you obtains from this world be like the provision of a traveler لِيكُنْ بلغة أحدكم من الدنيا كزاد الراكب
, and around me — this is the report of the Messenger narrated by Salman to Sa'd —
Let what one of you obtains from this world be like the provision of a traveler ليكُنْ بلغة أحدكم من الدنيا كزاد الراكب
. The hadith ends here. Salman said: And around me are these black pots. He said: And around him were only a water jar, a bowl, and an incense burner. So Sa'd said: Leave us a covenant. He said: "O Sa'd, remember Allah when you are anxious, when you are about to act, and when you are judging." Al-Hakim narrated it and said: The chain is authentic. That is what he said.
We will speak from the hadith perspective later; after we explain this hadith to some extent.
When Sa'd, who is a noble Companion, indeed one of the ten promised Paradise, Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), entered to visit Salman al-Farisi, and it seemed he was in the illness of his death (may Allah be pleased with them both), Salman al-Farisi wept. So Sa'd said to him: What makes you cry, O Abu 'Abdullah? Abu 'Abdullah is the kunya (nickname) of Salman al-Farisi. He was consoling and comforting him, saying to him: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) passed away while he was pleased with you; why the sadness and why the weeping? And you will drink from his pool; because you are among the companions of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and among those from whom the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) departed while he was pleased with them; therefore he said: The Messenger of Allah passed away while he was pleased with you, and you will drink from his pool and meet your companions; why the sadness and why the weeping? He said: I am not weeping out of panic over death or greed for this world, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) left us with a covenant, so I fear that I have not fulfilled this covenant for him. What did the Messenger say to him and his companions:
Let what one of you obtains from this world be like the provision of a traveler ليكُنْ بلغة أحدكم من الدنيا كزاد الراكب
; meaning: Let what one obtains and conveys to his goal and objective of provisions be the amount of a traveler's provision. What was a traveler's provision at that time? Whatever the traveler loaded on his mount as provision, it was a little date and a little water, such that he could not live on this provision and that water except for a few days.
Let what one of you obtains from this world ليكُنْ بلغة أحدكم من الدنيا
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 42:50

When I say this, I imagine that many of the attendees and others will be led to think: Does this mean that it is not permissible for us to expand in food and drink? Especially in this age where people, all of them, Muslims and disbelievers, have diversified in expanding in restaurants, food, and drink? Does this mean that the guidance from this hadith and similar hadiths mentioned below is that it is not permissible in Islam to expand in everything we alluded to earlier?
The answer: No, the issue now is not an issue of haram (forbidden) and halal (lawful), but the issue now is training the soul on contentment and on not caring about the rubble of this world and provisioning from it more than necessary. As for one who wants to expand, this expansion has its limits and its conditions, and I am not in this position now; especially since I remember that I expanded in this aspect when we first touched upon this topic, which is "encouraging asceticism in this world"; therefore, you must link your minds to the fact that the purpose of the research here is not to prohibit the abundance of gathering lawful wealth; no.
