The Meaning of His Saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “And whoever does not believe in You, and does not testify that I am Your Messenger; do not make meeting You desirable to him”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The effect of this beneficial supplication for the believers is apparent in the supplication with which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) supplicated against the disbelievers, in contrast to all of that; where he said (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him):
And whoever does not believe in You, and does not testify that I am Your Messenger; do not make meeting You desirable to him, do not make Your decree easy for him, and increase for him of this world
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:83
.
And it seems that this supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is among the supplications for which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) answered his (peace be upon him) supplication; because it is not necessary that every supplication with which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) supplicates is answered; contrary to what is in the minds of some people who deal with the rulings of the Shari'ah according to their desires, or at least according to their emotions. It is not necessary that every supplication with which the Messenger (peace be upon him) supplicates is answered by Allah for him, even though the general rule is that it is; and therefore he said (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) — and this is from His generosity, mercy, and compassion for his Ummah — he said:
Indeed, for every Prophet there is an answered supplication, and I have kept my supplication as intercession for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection; so it will be granted — if Allah wills — to everyone who dies while testifying that there is no god but Allah
. So this supplication is answered with certainty; and therefore the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) knew how to use it well, and knew where to place it in the appropriate place, so he said:
I have reserved my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
Sahih Muslim 201
. As for the other supplications, they may be answered or they may not be answered. And among the famous supplications that our Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He) did not answer for His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a wisdom He knows is that he supplicated that the affliction of his Ummah not be severe among them, but that was not accepted from him (peace be upon him).
I say: It appears that this supplication — which is the subject of our lesson tonight — is among those that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) answered for His Prophet; because its meaning in both paragraphs; the first paragraph concerning the believer, and the other paragraph concerning the disbeliever, the meaning of this and the meaning of this is manifest in the believer and in the disbeliever. And this — as we said — regarding the first paragraph is the general rule, but as for what concerns the disbeliever, our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) has mentioned in His Book what can be considered support or explanation for a phrase in this hadith; namely His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
And whoever turns away from My remembrance - indeed, he will have a depressed life
[Taha 20:124]
. This straitened state in which the disbeliever lives, and the clearest manifestation of this straitened state is in the present age, which was supposed to be the time in which the disbeliever would get his share of pleasure and comfort; due to the means provided for him of inventions and innovations that facilitate that for him, but all of that turned against him because of his disbelief; and therefore he said (peace be upon him): “And whoever does not believe in You, and does not believe in him (peace be upon him), do not make Your decree easy for him”; so he is not satisfied with his decree no matter how slight its difficulty is, and he takes and curses and is agitated, and his whole life is distorted. This is very apparent; so he is a verification of the previous verse first, and of this authentic hadith second.
And whoever does not believe in You, and does not testify that I am Your Messenger; do not make meeting You desirable to him
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:83
As He (the Exalted) said:
And you will surely find them the most greedy of people for life
[Al-Baqarah 2:96]
unlike the believer, as is known in the biography of the righteous Salaf.
Do not make meeting You desirable to him, and do not make Your decree easy for him
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:83
So he is straitened always.
And increase for him of this world
Sahih Ibn Hibban 4:83
, and is there more than this world that you see today among the disbelievers?!
