A hadith was reported in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade pairing two dates, so is this applied by analogy to other things like grapes and figs, and the like?

The questioner : Shaykh, it is established in the authentic collections that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade pairing two dates. Is this applied by analogy to other things, such as grapes, figs, or the like?

The Shaykh : It appears that one should observe the custom of the country, which is not to eat, for example, two dates at a time; because that indicates the gluttony that is disliked by everyone, especially if one is a Muslim. But as you know, the hadith says:
Except with his permission إلا بإذنه
.

The questioner : Are grapes and the rest of the fruits applied by analogy to that?

The Shaykh : Yes, if that is the custom of the country.

Another questioner : Shaykh, I mean the custom—for example—in eating grapes is to take the whole cluster and then eat from it.

The questioner : He eats one berry at a time while holding the cluster in his hand.

The Shaykh : It does not matter.

The questioner : My brother today rebuked me for holding the cluster in my hand.

The Shaykh : He rebuked his companion.

The questioner : ... You raised a legal issue. May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar says in al-Fath: "And what is similar to it, such as raisins and the like, is applied by analogy to it," as you indicated, may Allah preserve you.

The questioner : Regarding the previous question, does the abundance extend to the ears?
