The Trial of the Messiah al-Dajjal
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: We hear about the Messiah al-Dajjal and his trial, from which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge, and we were commanded to seek refuge from it. Who is the Messiah al-Dajjal, what are his characteristics, what is the trial from which we seek refuge, and when will he appear? Is his trial specific to the living, or is it general for both the living and the dead? How do we protect ourselves from his trial, and what must we do to be safe from its danger?
Answer: The Messiah al-Dajjal is a man who will emerge in the end times. His emergence is one of the signs of the Hour. He will come with great trials that affect those weak in faith, and many people may be destroyed because of him, except for those whom Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) protects. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned his Ummah about al-Dajjal, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the Muslims to seek refuge with Allah from his trial.
When he causes harm to people and to the Muslims, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), in His mercy, will send down the Messiah, Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him), who will kill the Messiah al-Dajjal (peace be upon him) and relieve the Muslims of his evil. Thus, the truth will prevail. Isa (peace be upon him) will implement the law of Allah, rule by the Shari'ah of Islam, and by the religion of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the truth will triumph over falsehood when he descends (peace be upon him).
Question: Is his trial specific to the living, or is it general?
Answer: His trial is specific to the living. As for the dead, they have ended, and their relationship with this worldly life has ended, and he comes in this worldly life.
Question: Does this mean that he is unable to resurrect any of them by virtue of the power that Allah granted him to test people?
Answer: No, it is not reported that he will bring them out of their graves. But the story was reported of the man who will come out of Medina, and he will say to him: Do you believe in me?So he says: No, you are the Messiah al-Dajjal. Then he will cut him in two,Then he says to him: Get up, and he will get up... etc.
This was reported regarding the man, and he is alive, among the living. As for the people in the graves, he has no power to extract them from their graves.
Question: How do we protect ourselves from his trial, meaning what must we do?
Answer: We must seek refuge with Allah from his trial, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us.
Question: Of course, this is in addition to doing righteous deeds, which a person increases in order to be safe from his trial; because only those few in faith will be deceived by him or be deluded by him?
Answer: There is no doubt that it is obligatory for the Muslim to do what strengthens his creed and faith, to increase in acts of obedience, to adhere to the correct creed, to perform the obligatory duties, and to abandon the forbidden. This is obligatory upon him in all his life, not specifically because of the Messiah al-Dajjal, and this is his religious duty that Allah has made obligatory upon him. But whoever is characterized by adhering to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), performing what Allah has made obligatory upon him, and seeking refuge with Allah from the evil of trials, then Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will protect him and keep him safe.
Question: Are there places that the Messiah al-Dajjal does not reach?
Answer: Yes, he does not reach Makkah and al-Madinah. He travels across the earth with speed, except for Makkah and al-Madinah, for he is prevented from entering them. But al-Madinah will tremble and every hypocrite will be expelled from it, until he falls into his evil, may Allah protect us from that.
