Question: Allah the Exalted said in Surat Yasin:
(2) By the wise Qur'an. (3) Indeed you, [O Muhammad], are from among the messengers, (4) On a straight path. (5) [This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, (6) That you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware. (7) Already the word has come into effect upon most of them, so they do not believe. (8) Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft. (9) And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.
[Yasin: 1-9].
What is the meaning of these verses, and who are these people who were not warned, even though Allah says:
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut."
[An-Nahl: 36]?

Answer: His saying, the Exalted,In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
Yasinيس
: The correct view is that this is among the disjointed letters at the beginnings of the surahs, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, knows best what He intends by them.
And the Wise Qur'anوَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيمِ
This is an oath from Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, by the Qur'an, which is His speech and the verses He revealed. It indicates the greatness of this Qur'an, because Allah swore by it.
The Wise
Its meaning is: The precise one that is not subject to deficiency or contradiction, and falsehood does not come to it from before it or from behind it.
indeed, you are from among the messengers.
[Al-Baqarah 2:252]
This is what the oath is upon. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, swore by the Wise Qur'an that Muhammad is among the messengers. In this is the affirmation of the message for our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and that He affirmed it and swore by it, Glorified and Exalted is He.
Upon a straight path
That is: You, O Messenger, are upon a clear path and a correct path, which is the path of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.
[This is] a revelation of the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,
[Ya-Sin 36:5]
That is: This message and this Qur'an are from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. He is the One who sent this Messenger, and He is the One who revealed this Book. He is the Almighty, meaning the Strong One who cannot be overcome, and the Merciful to His servants, Glorified and Exalted is He.
The wisdom in that, in the revelation of this Qur'an and the sending of this Messenger,
To warn a peopleلِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا
: means: To make clear to them and warn them of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to alert them to the path of truth and the path of guidance, and to warn them and admonish them against the path of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and the path of the Fire. And the intended meaning of these people is: The Arabs.
Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent to them primarily, and to others secondarily, otherwise he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent to all the two groups, the jinn and mankind, as He, the Exalted, said:
Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you allقُلْ يَاأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ جَمِيعًا
[Al-A'raf: 158],And Allah the Exalted said:
And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.
[Al-Anbiya: 107],And Allah the Exalted said:
Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner -
[Al-Furqan: 1],And Allah the Exalted said:
And We have not sent you except comprehensively to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner
[Saba: 28], so his message is universal. Although he was sent to the Arabs, he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent to all the jinn and mankind. His message is universal, peace and blessings be upon him. But he began by warning the Arabs, and this is part of the gradualness in conveying the message and the gradualness in delivering the message. So he conveys it to the Arabs and to others. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote to the kings, to Kisra and Caesar, inviting them to Islam, because he is a Messenger to them.
whose forefathers were not warnedمَا أُنْذِرَ آبَاؤُهُمْ
[Ya-Sin 36:6]
: There is no contradiction between this and what the questioner mentioned, that Allah sent a Messenger to every nation
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger
[An-Nahl: 36]; because no Messenger from among them came to the Arabs after Isma'il (peace be upon him), until
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came. No Messenger was sent to the Arabs after Isma'il except his son Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Question: The intended meaning of "warned" here: from among them or from them?

Answer: Yes, and although the call of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the calls of the prophets reached their language, but [a Messenger from among them], no one was sent from among them except Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him),
whose forefathers were not warned, so they are unaware.
[Ya-Sin 36:6]
.
Already the word has come into effect upon most of themلَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى أَكْثَرِهِمْ
[Ya-Sin 36:7]
: That is: The punishment became obligatory upon them due to their disbelief and their stubbornness against this Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and their failure to respond to his call. And thereby the word of punishment became established upon them, so they do not believe.
(8) Indeed, We have put shackles on their necks, and they are to their chins, so they are with heads [kept] aloft. (9) And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see. (10) And it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe. (11) You can only warn one who follows the message and fears the Most Merciful unseenإِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ أَغْلَالًا فَهِيَ إِلَى الْأَذْقَانِ فَهُمْ مُقْمَحُونَ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ وَسَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِنَّمَا تُنْذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ وَخَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ
[Yasin: 8 - 11] All these verses, up to His saying:
You only warn
, are all regarding the stubborn ones who knew the truth and to whom the message was conveyed, but they were arrogant and stubborn, and they persisted in worshipping idols, and the religion of their fathers and ancestors, and they rejected the truth that this Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. So Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, sealed their hearts as a punishment for them, and the punishment became established upon them, so they have no escape from it. And their insight was blinded, so their likeness is like the one whose hands are shackled up to his neck, and his head and his gaze are raised, and he walks between two barriers. If he moves forward, he stumbles on the barrier in front of him, and if he moves backward, he stumbles on the barrier behind him, so several things converged upon him:

First: That he is "muqmahun," meaning his head is raised due to the shackles on his neck, so he does not look at what is below him.

And secondly: That there is a barrier in front of him and a barrier behind him, and that Allah covered his sight, so he does not see what is around him. And this is because they turned away from the verses of Allah, and they did not reach the innermost part of their hearts, and their light did not reach their hearts. So they became in darkness, in hesitation, and in deviation, may Allah protect us from that. And this happens to everyone who opposes the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and is arrogant about his call until the Day of Resurrection. We ask Allah for well-being and safety.
