Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And We made a blazing lamp)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Naba: 13] By this is meant: the sun, which is a bright lamp, and it is also of great, intense heat—Meaning: and scorching—and its heat, as you see in the days of summer, is severe despite its crushing distance from the earth. So what do you think of what is near it? Then, in the days of heat, its intense heat is from the scorching heat of Hellfire. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (When the heat becomes intense, cool off with prayer; for the intensity of heat is from the scorching heat of Hellfire) And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (The fire complained to Allah, so He allowed it two breaths: one in winter and one in summer. The most severe of what you find from it is the bitter cold—Meaning: the bitter cold of Hellfire, we seek refuge in Allah from it—and the most severe of its heat is from the scorching heat of Hellfire) And yet, it has a great benefit for creation, for it saves creation great wealth during the day, where people dispense with lighting lamps by its means. Likewise, energy is extracted from it, which has many benefits. Likewise, it ripens fruits, and other numerous benefits from this lamp that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made for His servants.
