Some of the Salaf (the earliest generations) used to do this. They would write it for a sick person, either on paper which is then wetted and drunk, or in a tray or vessel where it is written with saffron, then the water in that vessel is poured out and the sick person drinks it, and he benefits by the permission of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
