The questioner : Your Eminence, the Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : What is the ruling on writing the Qur'an on paper, soaking it in water, and then drinking the water?

The Shaykh : Some of the Salaf (the earliest generations) did this. They would write it for a sick person, either on paper which is wetted and drunk, or in a tray or vessel where it is written in saffron, then the water in this vessel is poured out and the sick person drinks it, and he benefits by the permission of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Is this not considered a desecration of the Qur'an?

The Shaykh : No, it is not considered a desecration of the Qur'an. Rather, it is an honor to the Qur'an to believe that there is healing in it.
