The ruling on staying at the grave after burial
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! After the burial of the deceased, there is a hadith that says: one should remain for the time it takes to slaughter a camel. What does that mean?
This is what 'Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him) recommended, to remain for the time it takes to slaughter a camel and distribute its meat. However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not guide the community to this, nor did the Companions do it, as far as we know. In fact, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished burying the deceased, he would stand over the grave,And he said: (seek forgiveness for your brother and ask Allah to grant him steadfastness) this is what is prescribed,He stands over the grave and says: O Allah, grant him steadfastness, O Allah, grant him steadfastness, O Allah, grant him steadfastness, O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, forgive him, and then he would leave. As for staying at the grave, it is not prescribed.
