The ruling on one who dies before entering the state of ihram
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The honorable Shaykh! If a person comes from his country seeking to perform Hajj, and then his plane crashes, is he considered a pilgrim?
Meaning: If he perished before entering the state of ihram, then if one who traveled for Hajj perishes before entering the state of ihram, he is not a pilgrim. However, Allah the Exalted will reward him for his intention. But if he entered the state of ihram and then perished, he is a pilgrim. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the man who was gored by his camel while standing at 'Arafah, where he said: "Wash him with water and sidr, shroud him in his two garments, do not apply perfumes to him, and do not cover his head, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection while chanting the talbiyah." He did not order them to make up his Hajj, and this indicates that he is a pilgrim.
