The questioner: O honorable Shaykh! If a person performs wudu' and then finds, after the wudu', a substance the size of a fingernail stuck to his hand or foot such that he is certain that the water did not reach it, whether before the prayer or after the prayer, what is the ruling?The Shaykh: If he is certain that this substance was there before the wudu', then his wudu' is not valid.because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [al-Ma'idah: 6] and what is under this substance was not washed, so his wudu' is not valid. As for if it is unclear to him whether this occurred before the wudu' or after it, then his wudu' is valid and he is not required to repeat it; because the original state is that it was not there.
