Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in the context of the verses that urge kindness toward orphans and the like of them from the weak, he said: And His saying, the Exalted:
(1) Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense? (2) For that is the one who drives away the orphan (3) And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
[Al-Ma'un 107:1-3]
.
Have you seen
The scholars say: Its meaning is "inform me," meaning inform me about the state of this man and what will be the outcome.
And al-Din: the recompense, meaning he denies the recompense and the Last Day and does not believe in it, and the sign of that is that he pushes away the orphan: meaning he drives him away with force and harshness and does not have mercy on him.
and does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
Meaning: he does not urge people to feed the poor, and he himself does not do it either; he does not feed the poor. So the state of this man, may Allah protect us from it, is the worst state, because if he truly believed in the Day of Judgment, he would have had mercy on those whom Allah has commanded to be shown mercy, and he would have urged people to feed the poor.
And in Surat al-Fajr, Allah the Exalted says:
(17) No! But you do not honor the orphan (18) And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
[Al-Fajr 89:17-18]
, and this is more eloquent than what is in Surat al-Ma'un because He said:
you do not honor the orphan
[Al-Fajr 89:17]
, and honoring him is more than standing without honor or insult. So the orphan must be honored. And consider His saying:
(17) No! But you do not honor the orphan (18) And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
[Al-Fajr 89:17-18]
: so the poor person's share is feeding and meeting his need, whereas the orphan is to be honored. If he is wealthy, he is honored because of his orphanhood and not fed because of his wealth. And if he is poor: meaning the orphan, he is honored because of his orphanhood and fed because of his poverty. But most people do not care about this matter.
And know that kindness toward the weak, toward orphans, and toward the young puts mercy, softness, compassion, and turning back to the Mighty and Majestic in the heart, which is not attained except by one who has experienced it. So what you should do is have mercy on the young, have mercy on orphans, and have mercy on the poor, until this compassion, tenderness, and mercy are in your heart
Allah shows compassion only to those of His servants who are compassionate.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3125Sahih (Al-Albani)
. We ask Allah to encompass us and the Muslims with His mercy and bounty, for He is the Generous, the Bountiful.
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted: "From Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: كنا مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ستة نفر، فقال المشركون للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: اطرد هؤلاء لا يجترئون علينا، وكنت أنا وابن مسعود ورجل مِن هذيل وبلال، ورجلان لست أسميهما، فوقع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ما شاء الله أن يقع ، فحدث نفسه فأنزل الله تعالى : ولا تطرد الذين يدعون ربهم بالغداة والعشي يريدون وجهه We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), six men, and the polytheists said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Drive these men away so they will not dare to confront us." And I was there, and Ibn Mas'ud, and a man from Hudhayl, and Bilal, and two men whose names I do not mention. So what Allah willed to happen happened to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he was distressed, and Allah the Exalted revealed: "And do not drive away those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His Face.", narrated by Muslim".
