Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (The Owner of the Magnificent Throne)]
Then He clarified His greatness and the completeness of His dominion by saying: [Al-Buruj: 15-16] .
Meaning: The Owner of the Throne, and the Throne is that upon which Allah (Mighty and Majestic) rose, and it is the greatest, largest, and widest of all created things.
And it has come in the athar: (That the seven heavens and the seven earths, in relation to the Footstool, are like a ring cast into a vast expanse of land, and that the superiority of the Throne over the Footstool is like the superiority of the Footstool over this ring) So: no one can estimate the vastness of the Footstool. And if we observe the great disparity in the sizes of the visible created things now, what about the Footstool?! A man showed me a picture of the sun, which was depicted, and a picture of the earth, and I found that the earth, in relation to this sun, is a small point in a very large container, and that it is not comparable to the sun at all; it is nothing. So if these visible things, which are perceived by the telescope and other means, are thus, what about the things hidden from us?! For what is hidden from us is greater than what we see,Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Isra: 85] .
So the conclusion is that the Throne, which is the ceiling of all created things, is a great Throne, upon which the Most Merciful (Exalted and Majestic is He) rose,As Allah the Exalted said: [Ta-Ha: 5] .
And his statement: [Al-Buruj: 15] This has two readings: [Al-Buruj: 15] with the damd being raised (dammah).
And [Al-Buruj: 15] with the damd being lowered (kasrah).
So according to the first reading, it is a description of the Lord (Mighty and Majestic).
And according to the second reading, it is a description of the Throne.
And both are correct, so the Throne is magnificent, and likewise the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) is magnificent,And we say in the tashahhud: Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Magnificent.
Then He clarified His greatness and the completeness of His dominion by saying:
(15) Honorable Owner of the Throne, (16) Effecter of what He intends.
ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ * فَعَّالٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُThe Owner of the Throne
ذُو الْعَرْشِAnd it has come in the athar: (That the seven heavens and the seven earths, in relation to the Footstool, are like a ring cast into a vast expanse of land, and that the superiority of the Throne over the Footstool is like the superiority of the Footstool over this ring) So: no one can estimate the vastness of the Footstool. For what is hidden from us is greater than what we see,Allah the Exalted said:
And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little."
وَمَا أُوتِيتُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلاًSo the conclusion is that the Throne, which is the ceiling of all created things, is a great Throne, upon which the Most Merciful (Exalted and Majestic is He) rose,As Allah the Exalted said:
The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.
الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَىAnd his statement:
The Magnificent Throne
الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُThe Magnificent
الْمَجِيدُAnd
The Magnificent
الْمَجِيدِSo according to the first reading, it is a description of the Lord (Mighty and Majestic).
And according to the second reading, it is a description of the Throne.
And both are correct, so the Throne is magnificent, and likewise the Lord (Mighty and Majestic) is magnificent,And we say in the tashahhud: Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Magnificent.
