Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And the people of Noah before them, indeed they were)
Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Dhariyat: 46] Meaning: Mention the people of Noah before them, and they were the first nation to whom a messenger was sent, but they lied to him. This messenger was Noah (peace and blessings be upon him), who remained among them for a thousand years minus fifty years, calling them to Allah, reminding them, and admonishing them, but they—may Allah protect us from that—did not believe. [Surah Hud: 40] Until he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [Surah Nuh: 7] (They put their fingers in their ears) so that they would not hear what he said, and (covered themselves with their garments) meaning: they covered themselves with them so that they would not see him—may Allah grant us well-being—and this is the extreme of hatred for what he says and does. [Surah Nuh: 7] upon their falsehood, [Surah Nuh: 7] .
So the last thing he (peace and blessings be upon him) said was: [Surah Nuh: 26] And he called upon his Lord: [Surah al-Qamar: 10] Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Qamar: 11-12] Therefore—may Allah know best—they will have a share of the punishment of the liars; because they were the first nation to lie to the messengers. (And whoever starts a bad practice, he will bear its sin and the sin of whoever works by it until the Day of Resurrection) Just as the one who kills a soul, Adam’s son who killed his brother, bears a burden and a share of the punishment of the killer until the Day of Resurrection.
Allah the Exalted said:
And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْماً فَاسِقِينَBut none had believed with him, except a few.
وَمَا آمَنَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌAnd indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments
And they persisted
وَأَصَرُّواAnd they were arrogant with great arrogance.
وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَاراًSo the last thing he (peace and blessings be upon him) said was:
