Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((And indeed, Noah called Us, so We were the best of responders))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
[As-Saffat 37:75]
This phrase is a detail of His saying
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
[As-Saffat 37:71]
Here, Allah Mighty and Majestic begins to explain how this misguidance was and when it was. It was from the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth, who is Noah (peace be upon him). Noah is the first messenger by the evidence of the Book and the Sunnah. As for the Book, it is His saying the Exalted
Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him
[An-Nisa 4:163]
Therefore, there is no sent prophet before Noah. And His saying the Exalted
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture
[Al-Hadid: 26] So if the prophethood and the Book are in their descendants, then no one before Noah was given prophethood and the Book. The intended meaning of prophethood here is the prophethood of messengership. As for the prophethood of revelation and worship, it preceded with Adam, for Adam was a prophet who was spoken to, but he was not a sent prophet. As for the Sunnah, it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of intercession:
That the people come to Noah and say to him: You are the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth
So Noah (peace be upon him) is the first of the messengers. He remained among his people for a thousand years except fifty years, meaning nine hundred and fifty years, calling them night and day.
(5) He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day. (6) But my invitation increased them not except in flight. قال رب إني دعوت قومي ليلا ونهارا فلم يزدهم دعائي إلا فرارا
[Nuh 71:5-6]
He called them in secret and in public.
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
[Nuh 71:9]
But they, may Allah protect us from that, did not increase in that except in aversion and arrogance, despite the strength of the message and the great signs. But they, may Allah protect us from that, were deficient and arrogant, and only a few believed with him. When he (peace be upon him) saw what happened from his people and despaired of them, he called for a curse upon them.
(26) And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant. (27) Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever. قال رب لا تذر على الأرض من الكافرين ديارا إنك إن تذرهم يضلوا عبادك ولا يلدوا إلا فاجرا كفارا
[Nuh 71:26-27]
And he said:
Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ
[Al-Qamar 54:10]
So Allah the Exalted answered his supplication.
