The Shaykh : Allah the Exalted said: [Qaf 50:12-14]. This verse, along with the verses in it, contains two benefits. The first benefit is the consolation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that his being denied is not unprecedented among creation; the people before the nation in which the Messenger was sent denied their messengers. The second benefit is the warning to these deniers of the Messenger (peace be upon him) that what befell the nations before them will befall them. Here, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says: [Al-Hajj 22:42] So who is Noah? Noah is the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth. Before him, the people were on the religion of Adam, and Adam was a prophet but not a messenger, because the people did not differ until a messenger was sent to them to judge between them. The people remained on this religion for ten centuries, as is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father). Then they differed because they multiplied, grew, and disputed, so they needed messengers. Allah sent messengers to them, and the first one sent was Noah. He was sent to his people, and he remained among them for a thousand years except fifty years, calling them to Allah, but that only increased them in transgression. [Nuh 71:7-10] to the end of it. Allah revealed a complete surah regarding the story of Noah, because he was the first messenger and the first to be denied. He remained among them for a thousand years except fifty years, and he threatened them, but nothing availed. This threat was of no use. Allah the Exalted revealed to him to build a ship, a great ship, in preparation for what would happen. So he began to build this ship, and whenever a group of his people passed by, they mocked him. He said to them: [Hud 11:38-39] And only a few believed with him, only a few of his people. And one of his sons, one of his sons who was from his own lineage, disbelieved in him. And glory to Allah, how great is the power of Allah! A prophet whose son disbelieved in him, and another prophet whose father disbelieved in him. Who was the one whose father disbelieved in him? Ibrahim. [Yunus 10:31] His people disbelieved in him, and only a few believed with him, even though he remained for a thousand years except fifty years. And we are wretched; if a man calls people for two days and they do not respond to him, he becomes tired and weary and leaves the calling. But the messengers have a patience that no other patience matches. [Al-Ahqaf 46:35], and Noah is among the resolute prophets. The result was that Allah destroyed them. Allah the Exalted destroyed them. With what? Listen? Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Qamar 54:9-12] The water descending from the sky and gushing from the earth In another reading, [Al-Qamar 54:11], "We opened," and the reduplication indicates abundance, meaning the sky became like the mouths of water skins pouring out water, and the earth boiled with water. Note that Allah did not say "We burst forth the springs of the earth," but rather He said [Al-Qamar 54:12] as if the entire earth became springs. And Allah the Exalted clarified that the kiln, which is the place of the hot, dry fire, burst open. The kiln burst, and the water reached the tops of the mountains. And there was a woman among these disbelievers with a boy; whenever the water rose, she climbed a mountain around her. Whenever it rose, she climbed the mountain, until she reached the top of the mountain. When she reached the top, the water reached her, until it overwhelmed her. She lifted her boy up so that she would drown before the boy. And in the hadith: But when the punishment descends, faith does not avail. When the punishment descends, wisdom takes the place of mercy. Wisdom takes the place of mercy. Whose wisdom? The wisdom of Allah the Exalted takes the place of mercy. For this reason, when Pharaoh drowned and the drowning overtook him, he said: [Yunus 10:90] Look, my brother, at the perfection of humility. Look at the perfection of humility. He did not say, "I believe in Allah," or "I believe in the One in whom the Children of Israel believed." Rather, he made himself a follower of whom? Of the Children of Israel, who used to slaughter their sons and keep their women alive. Now he has become a tail for them, but it did not benefit him. It was said to him: meaning, do you believe? [Yunus 10:91]. The important point is that this is the summary of Noah's message. And here is a point: we find in some trees that depict the names of the prophets, a tree depicting the names of the prophets, where they place Idris before Noah, and this is a great error. Idris is not before Noah. Idris is from the Children of Israel, because Allah mentions his story with the story of the prophets of the Children of Israel. And we cannot say that he was before Noah, while Allah the Exalted says: [An-Nisa 4:163] And He the Exalted says: [Al-Hadid 57:26] There is no one before Noah, absolutely. There is no messenger before Noah. And in the authentic hadith, the hadith of intercession, the people come to Noah on the Day of Resurrection to ask for his intercession, and they say, "You are the first messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth." So the matter is clear and distinct. And we suffice with this amount regarding the stories of the prophets, until we complete them, if Allah wills, in future sessions.
