Ruling on the wife of the guarantor taking money from a Muslim maid without right

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Ruling on the wife of the guarantor taking money from a Muslim maid without right

The questioner: O esteemed Shaykh! A Muslim maid had one month left until the end of her contract. Her guarantor wanted to send her away, so he gave her the salary for the month she had not worked. The guarantor’s wife took one hundred riyals from her because, in the wife’s view, the maid did not deserve it due to her stubbornness, arrogance, and occasional disobedience to the wife’s orders. The wife feared sin after the maid left! Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh: Meaning: the maid traveled! The questioner: Yes, that is right.

The Shaykh: I say: The wife’s action of taking from the money her husband gave the maid is a serious error. She must repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If she knows the maid’s address, let her send her what she took; it is obligatory. If she does not know, let she give it in charity on behalf of the maid if the maid is Muslim. If the maid is a disbeliever, let her give it in charity to rid herself of it.
