The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
O esteemed Shaykh, a Muslim maid had one month remaining until the end of her contract, so her sponsor wanted to send her away and gave her the salary for the month she did not work. The sponsor's wife took one hundred riyals from it because, in the wife's view, the maid did not deserve it due to her stubbornness, arrogance, and occasional disobedience to the wife's orders. The wife feared sin after the maid left. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : I mean, and the maid traveled.

The questioner : Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : I say that the wife's action and her taking of the money that her husband gave to the maid is a great error. She must repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If she knows the maid's address, let her send her what she took; it is obligatory for her to do so. If she does not know, let her give it in charity on behalf of the maid if she is Muslim. If she is a disbeliever, let her give it in charity to rid herself of it and be safe from it. Yes, that is right.

The questioner : Shaykh.

The Shaykh : What is the ruling on it?
