Treatment of the obsessions that afflict some people

Q: Some people are afflicted with obsessions regarding great matters: their thoughts may wander to the nature of Allah, and the nature of His attributes, until they are led to imagine images, illusions, and fantasies, and their thinking branches out. Please advise us on the treatment of these obsessions, may Allah reward you with good.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reported that Satan continues to whisper to a person until he is driven by these evil obsessions to say: "This is Allah, the Creator of all things, so who created Allah?" He said: If these obsessions come from the direction of Allah, let him say: "I believe in Allah and His messengers, I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan," and then let him stop. He should not surrender to these obsessions, but rather fight them, and then not delve into the matter.
