Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (They call out to them: “Were we not with you?”)
Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Hadid: 14] Who is the one calling? The hypocrites. And who is being called? The believers. [Al-Hadid: 14] Meaning: In this world, we were with you, praying, giving charity, and remembering Allah. [Al-Hadid: 14] Meaning: You were with us, but only in appearance, not in reality. Therefore, they said: [Al-Hadid: 14] Meaning: You deceived yourselves. [Al-Hadid: 14] You waited for us to be destroyed, for the hypocrites wait for the destruction of the believers. [Al-Hadid: 14] You doubted the matter; you had no faith. [Al-Hadid: 14] Meaning: You thought that you were doing good,Because they say: [An-Nisa: 62] We reconcile between the believers and the disbelievers, and between faith and disbelief. [Al-Baqarah: 14] Meaning: They are with the believers. [Al-Baqarah: 14] They are with the disbelievers. They thought that through this deception, they had won the battle. [Al-Hadid: 14] And that was by their death.
[Al-Hadid: 14] (The Deceiver) is Satan, and the evidence for this is the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, about them when Satan whispered to our parents. Allah said about him: [Al-A'raf: 22] Therefore, the Deceiver is Satan.
