What is the expiation for intentional murder.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Okay, one thing remains regarding the expiation. The expiation is not accepted, my brother, and among the discretionary punishments is that the right is denied if he transgresses.

The questioner : Fasting two consecutive months.

The Shaykh : He fasts two consecutive months. This requires one to pay full attention. Okay.

The questioner : Fasting two consecutive months. If he is unable to do so, then feeding sixty poor people.

The Shaykh : I do not rest. Yes.

The questioner : Freeing a slave.

The Shaykh : Freeing a slave. Okay, rest. The reality is that there is no expiation on him. There is no expiation on him at all, because intentional murder has no expiation. There is nothing in it except the Fire of Hell.
But whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment. ومن يقتل مؤمنا متعمدا فجزاؤه جهنم خالدا فيها وغضب الله عليه ولعنه وأعد له عذابا عظيما
[An-Nisa 4:93]
The expiation is only for accidental killing and quasi-intentional killing, which is freeing a slave. If he does not find one, then fasting two consecutive months. If he is unable to do so, then nothing is required of him. There is no feeding of sixty poor people in the case of killing. It is either fasting, or it is dropped from him. Okay, this is if the correct view is that the killer has repentance.
