The questioner : He says: A man told his wife that if she did not return by the morning of the next day, she should not return, after she asked him to spend the night at her parents' house. What is his obligation? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : He owes nothing, but we advise him not to speak in such a manner because it affects her heart. As for divorce, no divorce takes place with this formulation because he did not divorce her. He said: "Do not return," and it is possible that he meant by "Do not return" that she should stay at her parents' house as a form of discipline. The matter is in his hands; if he wishes, he may divorce her later, and if he wishes, he may not divorce her.
