The permissibility of raising the hands in the prayer for rain, and the impermissibility of raising the hands on Friday while the imam is supplicating.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In these two incidents, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands while delivering the sermon. In the first incident, when he asked Allah for rain, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) raised their hands with him while listening to the sermon. It is derived from this that if the preacher supplicates for rain or for clear weather, he should raise his hands, and the people should raise their hands with him when he supplicates for rain. In all other cases, if the preacher supplicates in the Friday sermon, he should not raise his hands, nor should the people raise their hands. This is because the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) rebuked Bishr ibn Marwan when he delivered a sermon, supplicated, and raised his hands. Raising the hands in supplication during the sermon is not from the way of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), except when supplicating for rain or for clear weather. These are all permissible categories.
