The ruling on raising the hands during the preacher's supplication on Friday
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother asks and says: Is it permissible to raise the hands when the preacher makes supplication on Friday? Because I heard that it is not permissible to raise the hands during the Friday supplication?
Answer:
It is not reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to raise his hands in the Friday sermon; and when some of the Companions saw some of the rulers raising their hands in the Friday sermon, they disapproved of it. Worship is based on what is prescribed, and there is no room for personal opinion in it, so the preacher on Friday should not raise his hands in supplication; because this was not transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except if he is seeking rain, meaning: seeking aid, asking Allah for relief from drought and scarcity. Then there is no harm in raising his hands in the Friday sermon, during the supplication for aid, as the noble Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) did. When he sought aid on Friday in the Friday sermon, he raised his hands, made supplication, and the people raised their hands.
As for ordinary sermons that do not include seeking aid, he does not raise his hands; why? Because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not raise his hands, and he is the one who said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6008 And Allah says: [Al-Ahzab: 21]. Since he (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) did not raise his hands in the Friday sermon, and likewise in the Eid sermon, it is not prescribed for us to raise our hands in them, except in seeking rain in the sermon for seeking rain, or on Friday, or on Eid if he seeks rain, he raises his hands, as the Prophet (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) did. Yes.
