The Shaykh : Also, I remind you of what we began with first: that fasting is not merely abstaining from food, drink, and sexual intercourse. Rather, it is abstaining from disobeying Allah, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Fasting is a shield, الصوم جنة،
. What does "jannah" mean? It means protection, protection from sins. For this reason, he followed it with his saying:
so let him not be loud or obscene, and if someone insults him or fights him, let him say, "I am fasting, I am fasting, I am fasting." فلا يصخب ولا يرفث وإن أحد سابه أو قاتله فليقل إني صائم، إني صائم، إني صائم
. Guard your fast.
