A woman whose menstruation began days before Ramadan, then Ramadan began while she had not yet become pure

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says: A woman whose menstruation began days before Ramadan, then Ramadan began while she had not yet become pure. On the second day of Ramadan, she intended to fast and waited for the bleeding to stop, abstaining until the day ended. The bleeding stopped before sunset, and she had abstained all day without taking a ritual bath.

The Shaykh : Did the bleeding stop before sunset or before dawn?

The questioner : Before sunset.

The Shaykh : Sunset?

The questioner : Yes, and she abstained all day without taking a ritual bath. She asks whether she must make up this day or not?

The Shaykh : The question is clear.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : Should she repeat it?

The Shaykh : I mean, should she repeat it.

The Shaykh : If the question is as we have understood it: that her menstruation began before Ramadan, and Ramadan began while it was still present. It became the second day while it was still present. But she thought she would become pure on that day, the second day. We say: Her fasting is forbidden for her, and it is not permissible for a woman to fast while her menstruation is still present, ever, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Isn't it true that a woman does not pray and does not fast on menstruating? أليس إذا حاضت لم تصل ولم تصم
Sahih al-Bukhari 1951
. This is a point of consensus among the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them). So this woman must now make up the first day and the second day, and she must repent to Allah for having intended to fast while her menstruation was present.
And if a woman becomes pure before dawn, she must take a ritual bath and pray the Fajr prayer, and continue her fasting, even if she does not take a ritual bath until after the dawn has appeared. It is as if a person were in a state of major ritual impurity and did not take a ritual bath until after the dawn had appeared; there is no harm in that.
